QR job taken, now...........
.............gotta sort a few things out, and quick.
Hi folks,
As a groundie that has just taken a job with QR, can you excuse me for busting in on your forum. The whole ME thing will be very new, if not buttock tightening, and some of the threads on QR seem a touch concerning to say the least. Hell sat here on the dole, again, thru UK aviation, it can't be that bad can it?
My background is 15 years of European Operations Control experience, taking a job in Flight Ops Admin. Hell, gonna miss the buzz, but that is by the by.
Can anyone comment on DL as a boss? What can I expect?
What is the mix of the FD Crew like?
What are the beefs, and that is at my level, as a humble office boy, just slogging his way thru Voyage Reports and hotac contracts/complaints.
On a pure selfish note, any hints on finding accomodation, I only get 2 weeks assistance :-(
ALL help will be very well recieved, promise.

BCounter,
Can't tell you what to expect accommodation-wise as that would be dependent upon your individual contract.
The mix of FD crew is good. You will find both the cabin crew and flight deck very friendly (except for the spies).
Unfortunately, the airline suffers from the overridding rule of AAB whose idea of man management is a well-placed stroke from a baseball bat. You'll meet him and you won't enjoy it.
Flight Operations are a good bunch and DL is a good guy.

Thanx folks
But tell me, am I missing something here with BKK? I took no offence at all.
oryx,
Thanks, kinda got the impression man management may be a bit different to the norm over here in the UK. Good to hear the new boss is a good one.
Was more looking for a steer on finding accomodation within my budget of Qrs4400 per month all in. Two weeks is a mighty short time to find a roof. I have no idea whatsoever of the set up over in Qatar with regards to renting. I'm not looking for a penthouse, just 'a comfortable place to live'. How does it work with deposits, upfront rent and the like.
Sorry to be a pain in the butt, but I have committed now, so would like to have a fighting chance on arrival.
Thanx in advance for any snippets of help,

Get a copy of the daily newspapers (Gulf Times, Peninsula), look in the ads and you will find the name of a bunch of real estate companies. Call them and try to find a small, cheap apartment to rent for as short a period as possible (say 6 months). During that time you can settle in and shop around for your dream place. Bear in mind now is the worst possible time to rent: high demand and short supply. It will take you much longer than the two weeks you have to find a suitable place so don't rush it. Move into somewhere small and furnished and then ask your collegues for some help. Worked for me! Good luck.

Thanks, you have touched on my main concern, supply and demand. I had heard that now is not the best time to be looking for a pad in Doha.
Thanks also for the names of the papers, I have now found one on-line so can start e-mailing agents. Your little bit of advice has (I hope) given me a start. Just what I was after, hope I can be of help to you in return soon.
I must say, this does seem like a very good, friendly and helpfull forum, hope I last long enough to contribute on other issues, not just the selfish ones of accepting help.

There is a place called Pearl Gardens apartments....furnished...nice crowd a lot of QR guys..prices 3500 one , 4500 two bedroom as of next month...all inclusive...gym,pool,tenis court, internet not the greatest maintenance but this is Doha...waiting list sometimes...anyway prices are going up...my advice is for 4400 QR get either a apartment or if you have a family stand alone villa is better choice..and you can get membership in the hotel fitness club i.e. Sheraton,Marriott, etc....
