What Happened to SmartJet?

Anyone heard anything more about the low-cost Dubai airline SmartJet? I read that DXB airport is refusing entry to low cost carriers. Does this mean SmartJet is finished before it starts?

Any speculation as to why the ban on low-cost carriers? Politics, maybe?

I think I read a few weeks ago that it was the Dubai government that has prohibited all low-cost airlines from coming to DXB. They said they wanted to 'preserve the quality' of services offered from DXB. A load of bull of course. We all know they did that to protect EK. I wonder if they will be allowed to go to Sharjah and compete with Air Arabia. Sharjah is only 5 minutes away from DXB.
