Tuition fee increase
I just got handed a letter from Dubai American Academy. Current fees of 40,540 dhs per year, have been increased to 46,620 dhs.
What are the chances of EK matching the increase........HA!

MD11,
Behave!!! To ensure that parents feel fully involved in the educational process (its a quote like that), EK pay 95% up to a limit which is significantly less than the DAA rate. It covers a lot of schools but some of the profit making establishments will take a significant chunk of your cash.

I see, what kind of institutions would not be covered?!? I hear alot of expats send their kids to Ireland for post secondary education. I actually know of two people, one from Kuwait and one from Sharjah that are going there for education and it is very expensive there.

MD11,
It's not post-secondary he was talking about.............just your average 12 year old. Your math doesn't seem to make sense either. Point is that Dubai is becoming more and more expensive and there is a lack of schools.

How does my math not make sense?!? If I am a Canadian going to the states, my education goes up 3-10 times as much as it is for a local American. And I am not talking south, I'm talking University of Michigan. So, people here pay taxes and that covers our childrens education, if you want to go to a private school here in Canada it too is between $12000 and $15000 per year (ex. St. Micheals) Obviously everything in Dubai is expensive, and you are on a tax-free salary, so why act surprised?
Please I don't need to here more bickering or moaning... you chose to go there now live with it.
If there are no schools, send them home to live with their grandparents, or send them to another country. And don't tell me a pilot flying for a major airline can't afford to do so because I know people that work in factories and can afford it. You may have to sacrifice some luxuries in life but thats the way it is in life and you have to choose that or your kids.

Geez Mr MD11 if you want to give parenting advice write a book. Otherwise a North American resident giving guys in the Middle East advice on how reasonable their finacial package is, without actual knowledge, is a trifle out of place I reckon.

Not giving parenting lessons, but one would know what they are getting themselves into. Everyone has education bills that are through the roof, not only the expats in the middle east.

Sorry not meaning to cause any grief for you guys, I'm sure there are alot bigger issues aside from tuition costs going up.
Oh and I have the Emirates salary scale right in front of me in a book from F/O 1-7 years to CAPT 1-13 years. Not the greatest pay, but beats what you'd be getting in most North American places.

MD11, we learn from another post that you're 19 and work in an aviation shop. No wonder you have all the answers. We've had a few young fellas telling us how things should be based on no knowledge of the circumstances so could I ask you to read and absorb and then give some advice after your stint in the middle east has begun. Then you'll be working from the position of actually knowing what you're on about.

I send my kids to boarding school in S. Africa. Approx a 3rd of the cost involved in Dubai or Bahrain. You guessed it, I'm a bok, but standards are good, and sporting facilities excellent. Of course you kids would have to play rugby and cricket. School terms not the same as UK, so makes it easier to get the ID 90, when you get down to see them.

you're causing grief again MD11flyer-again about stuff you have no idea about.
