I would suggest that medico or doctor is a better term of address than "quack" in these fora. I don't refer to you professional pilots as "fallback human autopilot assistants", as I realise and respect your true value, having read many threads.

AP, I don't think that the colloquial use of the word 'quack' matters too much. It is the context that matters.

PS - Obsolete Dutch : Middle Dutch kwak = boast + Middle Dutch salve = unguent - so "ointment-boaster"

I suspect Aussiepax is more concerned about the term "quackery"- unscientific medical advice.

Could it simply be that the connotation associated with the word 'quack' in Australia is somewhat worse than it is in the British English? Well that's my perception anyway.

Anyway, I am sure no offence is (usually) intended by those who use the term here.
