Uk Class 1 referred for history of "migraines" (very mild) - chance of acceptance?
Hi all,
I went for my Class 1 last week in London, which was unfortunately referred because my medical history mentions migraines. I have been asked to get a neurologist's assessment and then my application will be referred to the CAA medical assessor.
My case is slightly unusual. Essentially, when I was younger I had two incidents of a prolonged, very mild headache (1/10 pain scale) which lasted for about 2 months on each occasion. They did not interfere with my daily activities (other than initially being slightly concerned about the prospect of a brain tumour!), and I had no other symptoms other than very mild nausea on a couple of days, which could have been unrelated. I never had any severe pain, light sensitivity, aura, or other neuological suymptoms etc. They were just a mild annoyance due to their prolonged duration, so on both occasions, I saw a neurologist and had an MRI done, which was clear.
Unfortunately, the neurologist diagnosed them as 'prolonged migrainous headaches' and thus the AME took one look at the diagnosis during my medical and had no choice but to refer me. Having looked at the diagnostic criteria for migraines, I don't believe this diagnosis is a good fit, and to me it seems more likely they were just prolonged tension headaches, but I am where I am.
The good news is that these incidents were a while ago (the first was nearly 10 years ago, and the second was more than six years ago), and I've had no recurrence since nor any other symptoms. However, I'm still nervous that this may be grounds to deny me my Class 1. I'll be seeing a neurologist to get an assessment done next month, but I can't help but worry in the meantime.
Does anyone have any experience in this area and might be able to shed some light on the likelihood my application is approved?
