EASA Medical Cert with Anxiety

Hello all,

I started my PPL training during the Summer of 2018 and I have proudly passed my skill test and acquired my License in April 2024 with , since I acquired my PPL I have been building plenty of solo hours by doing circuits in and out of a challenging runway in Ireland 416 x 9 meters and X Country which I enjoy a lot. I am now aiming to go commercial with an airline and of course I need to obtain a Class 1 to fly commercial.

I do have a Class 2 Medical Cert but with a limitation which is an ORL meaning I can fly solo but cannot carry passengers without a safety pilot and that's impossible to do since the aircrafts I fly are 2-seater SEP. I presume it's there because I have a history of anxiety and a mild form of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). In regards to anxiety I do take a small dose of an approved SSRI Fluoxetine which I have been taking since 2017 and I have zero side effects whatsoever whilst taking them, I have been attending CBT with different therapists and they are very happy with me and my progress, I cannot say what type of anxiety I have, it's not Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, PTSD, Panic Disorder or Agoraphobia. I am unsure what type of anxiety I have or had, but I am still investigating along with my therapist. My instructors who have trained me expresses no concerns and very confident in me and ability as a PPL and my examiner who have examined me during my skill test has also expressed his confidence regarding my skill as he has stated to me that I have been calm and collective compared to other students he has examined in the past.

In regards to my ASD which I've had since birth, I am most certainly not ashamed of it, I believe it what makes me a confident pilot and calm during any flight, for that I am proud of it and I have been told that it is irrelevant when it comes to being a pilot.

At the moment I am trying to find a specialist in the respected field of psychology who can thoroughly assess or evaluate me and provide me with a detailed report about my mental wellbeing, I did come across information about a tool called a MMPI-2 Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - 2 which might be something to consult with.

I am worried that it might not be enough to guarantee my wellbeing, or it might not do anything at all.
I am also wondering whether I could appeal my limitation on my class 2 or could I apply for a class 1 with the limitation
Would any of you be able to provide me with any pointers or inputs?

Best regards,

Your regulator has clearly reviewed your medical condition in that they have issued or authorised a license with limitations. I would ask your AME to discuss with them what they would require to issue a Class 1 and if it is possible and when. Until you know the hurdle to jump or whether it is possible any expenditure on an assessment could be a waste of money.
