How long can I let my CAA Class 1 medical lapse before I have to do the whole thing again?

I've let my class 1 lapse by almost 2 years (obtained originally for sponsorship interview), but when I called CAA they stated that I would not have to got to Gatwick again, and that I should be able to renew my medical with an AME. I'm now confused ?!

I thin kit means you can go to a local CAA registered doc and have it revalidated rather than go through the whole traumatic experience at Gatwick again.

Question Class 1 renewal

I have a current CAA class 1 that expires in April next year. ATM i'm living overseas studying Module 1 of the ATPL exams and will be heading over in Jan/Feb to sit them. Once thats done i'll head back home.

Can I renew my med early while i'm there? If so will it expire from the day I visit the doc or will it expire in April 2004??

Cheers.
