Extending validity of rating due injury

One of my colleagues needs their MEP renewed (before expiry) next week.

They've just taken a fall, and have probably broken their wrist. With a doctor's certificate is there any way to extend the validity of the rating (they're not flying of course).

They prefer to renew a still current rating, than one that has lapsed.

UK CAA ATPL

Thanks, Sam.
