Medical class 1 runs out
Hi
My medical class 1 runs out in beginning of May 2019.
How long time can I wait with a renewal, before I have to start all over with an initial medical class 1? (I am not flying, will like to keep my medical class 1, but not necessary current though....)

Hi Easyheat,
From the UK CAA website,
You can renew a Class 1 medical certificate by taking a renewal examination at an Aeromedical Centre (AeMC) or by appointment with an Aeromedical Examiner (AME), subject to the following conditions:

- If your certificate expired more than 2 years before your application to renew it, the examiner will need to assess your aero-medical records before carrying out the renewal examination
- If your certificate expired more than 5 years before your application to renew it then you will have to follow the same process as for initial issue

After 5 years it is not the same process as initial issue. You have to use an Aeromedical Centre, not an Examiner, same as initial, but you are examined to renewal standards, not initial issue standards. Also - you can go to an Aeromedical Centre not in your SOLI for this.
