Converting Class 1

Hello,

I have a EASA Class 1 medical issued in France. I'm going to start training in Oxford soon and I wondered if I need to convert the French issued medical into a UK CAA issued one. The AME I went to said that I didn't need to because it was EASA and the guidelines were exactly the same, but the CAA website says:

You must obtain a UK EU class1/2 medical certificate before the CAA can issue a UK EU (EASA) ATPL/CPL or PPL
So I'm pretty sure that I need to go through the long and expensive process of converting the medical but I just want to be sure.

Thank you for your help!
