How to get an EASA medical in Australia

Hi all,

had a NPPL (Microlight) student who has moved to Australia.

Just managed to finish his training before he left and sent in his paperwork. Unfortunately, while we held a copy of his GP NPPL medical, he had lost the original. (He had a copy, which with modern copiers looked like the original, but wasn't!)

So, he needs a Medical. His UK GP won't give him a certified copy of the original, done last June, so he needs a Class 2 medical - or has to travel back to the UK to see his UK GP.

CAA state:

*******

CAP 804, Part II, Section 5 states;

3.3 Medical Requirements An applicant for an NPPL(A) shall hold a valid NPPL medical declaration or a Part-MED Class 1, 2 or LAPL medical certificate.

As such an ICAO Class 1 or 2 Medical issued by the Australian Authority (CASA), is not acceptable.

So unfortunately, attaining a medical in Australia is not an option. Either a medical signed by your UK GP, or a European equivalent (as stated above) are the only accepted options available. Sorry for the bad news.

***********

CAA list of overseas doctors who gave give Class 2 medicas covers Dubia, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Africa and Auckland. But no-one in Australia.

So is any UK AME going on holidays to Australia who can do a medical? Seems his only hope!

Very best wishes and thanks,

XA

AFAIK there is no one in Australia who can do UK medicals. I recently renewed my Class1 in New Zealand.

My understanding is that it is now too expensive for Doctors who previously held the necessary approvals, to re qualify for an EASA approval, and keep current, when the number of renewals they might do is minimal.

That said I have heard of a Dr. In the Sydney area who may be prepared to jump through the necessary hoops, and so they may be available in the future. Watch this space!
