Best seat position

Hi all.

Couldn't find Anything related to this topic so here goes,

What is the best way to set up your seat when flying (and driving for that matter) in terms of flat/uprigh/slightly incline ect.

I tend to get occasional back pains and aches in other places during flights.

Just wondering if anyone else gets this and if there is a simple fix.

Cheers in advance.

believe it or not, slouching is best~

BBC News - Sitting straight 'bad for backs'

there has been more research done recently to confirm the above results.

from a biomechanical perspective, anything to reduce pressure on the lower disks is probably beneficial for long-term back health.

one of the simplest and best back stretches is to simply stand up, legs apart, put your thumbs onto your lower back while holding your waist, and arch back.

all the best.

Thanks allot for the replies, I'm currently private flying, PA-28.
Will give the article a read and give the stretches a go !

Would you recommend a sligh decline on the seat, or almost bolt upright ??

Regards

I've flown the PA28 series alot (in prehistoric times0).

one good way to sit is to make sure you can handle the controls, full throw easily, see the instruments easily and take advantage of the antiglare panel so that you can reference the horizon

also, the best way to know if your seat is right is : ask yourself, how are my landings? if they are good...the seat is right!

buy a mckenzie lumbar roll for your back!

Maintaining the lumbar lordosis, as pboyall suggests, seems to help others.

Rolled up towel in the small of the back, works for me.
