Renewal vs re-validation

Hi all,

I have never been able to figure out the differences between renewal and re-validation of medical certificate at the UK CAA. If I'm not mistaken, renewal applies to the 40 days prior to expiry date, while re-validation applies during 2 years after the expiry date. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

But on the technical level of medical examinations, what are the exact differences? Is it true that one of them is less strict than the other for class 1 medicals?

Would appreciate your inputs.

Cheers.

Your use of revalidation/renewal is reversed. See

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/49/SRG_MED...ateExpiryDates[2362].pdf

which tells you what you are asking about.

Alright, I have got the correct link above, but it doesn't specify any difference in the medical examinations for either cases!

You are right. There is no difference in the exam, according to my AME.

And it doesn't say how long it can be expired ? For instance, if it expired 4 years ago, is it still a renewal or is there a point at which an "initial" needs to be done again (I know the term "initial" is exactly what it means, but I'm wondering if there comes a point that the CAA treat you as if you've never had a medical before.......)
