You will definately need an FAA medical if you want an FAA license. They are quite cheap and quick to do in the US. My initial Class one was about 30 mins and $50. The scool will probably arrange for you to do it on day one if you call ahead.
However I am referring to class one medicals. Unless someone knows any different about flying recreationally!!

You can take your UK or JAA PPL and medical to an FAA district office and they will give you an FAA restricted PPL which you need to validate with an instructor(BFR). Don't know if you have not got PPL yet though. There are DRs in UK who do FAA medicals, you can find them on FAA's website
