Angry FAA Medical Farce?

Did you know that if you book a class one examination at Gatwick and you want an FAA certificate at the same time, they can give you one for an extra £15, to cover the cost of the admin, if the FAA approved medical officer is on-site (despite the fact that you never see him). If the FAA approved officer isn't on site (not that you would have seen him anyway), you have to go back and pay £80 on a day when he is on-site (again, even though you don't even see him).

The doctor who examines you for your class one just recommends to the FAA approved officer that you pass and the paperwork is completed on the basis of that.

Well that's what they told me and so (as a result of a bit of bad planning) I'm an extra £65 out of pocket. I think the whole thing is ridiculous! I'd be interested in anybody else's view...
