Dogs at work
What is everyone`s opinion about taking dogs to work? I work on a busy airfield and one person in our department brings his puppy to work with him. Besides the obvious health and safety implications the smell can be unpleasant too! Does the owner have to get security clearance for said dog and what are the insurance implications if said dog destroys important paperwork?

Hum... there's something sniffy about this posting.
Dogs have a habit of jumping up at moving props. I say a habit, but they normally only do it once. (Not sure if this constitutes shock-loading the engine.) So I doubt whether the dog will get a clearance to go airside unaccompanied, not without a conspicuity jacket anyway.
We had one at Doncaster called "Ruggy", but he was quite grown-up and stayed in his basket under the table and bothered no-one. However when I was at flight school in California, the Japanese instructor decided it was the "in thing" to get a baby doggy. I was in ground school with my instructor and the door opened and the mut was pushed through:"Got to leave him to go flying". The said runt proceeded to pee on the floor and make a nuisance of itself, so I picked it up and placed it firmly in the litter bin. Barbara Woodhouse would have been proud of me for providing the animal with a place where it felt safe. It was still there when its owner returned. He removed it silently and we never saw it again. Probably thought it was some quaint English tradition.

Refuelling the aircraft the other day,saw a Helicopter come in to land and uplift fuel.Single pilot , no passengers.Opened the back door and let his dog out for a run around whilst his aircraft was being refuelled.

Agreed to land a Robbo on next-door neighbour's lawn. Just as I was about to set it down he let the dog out (most people catch them up at this point) and stood laughing as the dog effectively saw me off - it was bloody great Weimeraner, like the one on "Watchdog", so no way I was going to try to get rid of it by chopping it up with the tail rotor.
