Smile Class 1 requirements

Hi CauB,

If you phone the CAA in Gatwick (0044 1293 573700) and speak with their medical advisors, they will be able to answer the question for you.

From your query, I'm guessing your son has 'glue ear'? I'm currently in exactly the same position. At the moment I'm using 'Otovent' try to cure this, as I don't want grommits in my ear. Otovent cures glue ear in 2-3 weeks - mine is better and I still have about 10 days to go ...

Hope this is of help.

Cath

It may be worth a search, as i think this has been covered before.

I don't know of any conservative measures that really make a difference in glue ear, other than avoiding cigarette smoke.

Physiologically, I can't see why an insertion of a grommet would cause your son to have problems, indeed he's likely to suffer less than Joe Average. (Isd hearing acuity affected? I'm not sure.)

I'm wondering if problems may start when the grommet falls out, (as they tend to have a habit of), or is removed.

Have you told your specialist about your sons career intentions?
