Thumbs up Refractive surgery now OK!

Following discussions at the last JAR medical sub committee the CAA are now able to consider applications for initial Class one from those who have had refractive surgery for myopia up to a maximum preop limit of 5 dioptres.
That doesn't mean that the surgery is recommended as there is still the risk of deterioration of vision and side effects of glare and haze etc. I wouldn't have surgery myself but it is good news for those who have.

Thumbs up

That is excellent news Docfly! And not before time either. Do you know whether it is the same for long sightedness (Hyperopia) ?

Docfly,

Thatīs excellent news. Could you tell me what else was said at the last JAR meeting, with particular reference to the eyesight rules changing in November 2001?
Any info much appreciated!
Cheers

Sorry can't say what else was said at the meeting as I was only quoting from the AME Newsletter. I would assume however that it is a change to the JAR and applies to all states. Minutes to the meeting must be published somewhere.

Do you know if a medical will be suspended for a certain time after the surgery? I think it was 12 months until now. Thanks.

Bad news :
The change doesn't apply to the JAR and
probably UK CAA is only one which has change the rule.I spoke today with Dr.Roodenburg,
secretary of JAR-FCL medical sub-committee
and she said that approving refractive surgery as part of JAR is in process, but
it will take time.(at the end of year 2000 ??? )
I would like how many JAA states approve
surgery at the moment ? I know that it's
approved in Norway.
Is AME newsletter published in NET ?
