hearing test
Just had my hearing test this morning at Gatwick, and I was told that I have something wrong with my left ear. Apparently i have a slight hearing deficiency in my left ear. They said that based on my FAA Licence and medical and as its a renewal it fits within the boundaries and therefore I can be granted a first class medical. But before they do they want me to retest in 2 weeks time and if the results improve then fine...and if they don't they want to make sure from an ENT specialist that the condition won't deteriorate. God I'm so scared!! I don't want something as trivial (I say trivial but i understand the importance of) as this to stand in my way!! I've always though of funding and jobs as being real hurdles. God willing I'll pass this one many take for granted. Any previous experiences of the sort from any of you guys out there??

Gangsta,. .. .I had the same experience that you had.. .I have a deficiency in my left ear as well,which they detected on my test for CPL 22 years ago.. .I was sent to an audiological institute for further testing, and they found out that even if my left ear was suffering on some frequencies ,there wasn`t any danger that it would be worse.. .I was probably born what it.. .I have flown with other pilots with same problem.. .Try not to worry to much.Just try to do your best on your tests.. .. .Good luck! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I had a problem when I had my Class 1 initial that stemmed from exposure to loud bangs while in the army. I had a dirty great hole in the high frequency band in BOTH ears. OK it cost me £140 to have a specialist write a letter to say that it is unlikely to get worse but it was worth it. I have had several standard audiograms since all of which still show the problem and every time I have to tell the AME that I have had it checked by a specialist blah,blah,blah. Fortunately I asked for a copy of the results from the specialist so that an AME can renew my medical without refering to the CAA each time. I suggest that you do the same.
Finally don't worry believe it or not the CAA are on side with this sort of thing they just want a specialist to tell them what they really already know. It's an @rse covering exercise.
