How to get $300 back from the CAA...
I went for my JAA class 1 last week,and as the woman at reception looked over my form she spotted that I have a FAA class 1 and FAA Commercial;so I was told I was exempt from doing the EEG and would get 146 pounds back!! 
..nice one!!then did the rest of the medical and came to the chest x-ray,Doc looks at my records and says hang on and goes out the door,returns a min later and says that because I have an FAA class 1 I was also exempt from the chest x-ray;he then went on to say that its a loophole in the law because you dont have to do a chest x-ray for the FAA but he was happy enough with it!!! another 65 quid back.So there you have it,a good day at the office.(this was good as I had to travel all the way from the US to do it!! 
..All in all no problems and all very friendly there (apart from the waiting!!)
Instead of an initial I think it was called an 'Extended Renewal'
