Class 1 heart problems
I'm currently in the Armed Forces, looking to join civilian ATC.
When I joined up, my ECG displayed (it took me ten years to find this out - then it was by chance!) - that I had a RIGHT BUNDLE BRANCH BLOCK (think thats right!)
Seemingly, after specialists looked at my ECG, it was decided that I was fit for aircrew duties and have held an aircrew medical since joining. (if they had not been happy - I would not have been able to join, seemingly)
My query is, will this allegedly common condition prevent me from passing a class 1 (ATC) medical? In all other aspects I am quite fit - I exercise hard 5 or 6 days a week - have run several marathons -, don't drink much, have low blood pressure etc.
Any guidance would be appreciated

Hi Bizzy - I have written about this once before, I'm no authority (as am only a mere FW & RW pilot) I have partial RBBB. I was told by the CAA that they would just keep an eye on it. No restrictions and no snags unless the characteristics of it change. My understanding of it is that it is a conductivity/timing issue (but the Ticker Doc's will obviously expand on this). I was able to have a CLass 1 without any bovver.
However, the Heart DOC who examined me when it was found told me that it was a very often found in very fit people. I too spend much time trying to keep myself fit. But after they told me this - I thought time to eat even more curry and drink even more Guiness........such hardship.

Bizzy,
Your problem is common in the young.
A Class1 can be held if you visit a cardiologist ,have a couple of tests(echocardiogram and a stress test) and pass these.
Make sure your cardiologist is familiar with the CASA medical protocols-best achieved by seeing one who flies.
They are in every capital city.
Keep your chin up

Eden and Cirrus Driver
Thanks for the replies.. I will rest a little easier - I believe it is a CAA doctor who does ATCO medicals at Gatwick or Heathrow.
By the way Cirrus - cheers for alluding to the young people - I'm 31, so it made my day!
I'm of to drink some Guiness now - my trust in Eden is implicit!
