advice re my class 1 please

I hold a class one at present, and it runs out on the 10th August. I have yet to start my CPL therefore don't really require it just yet.
Could I fly on class 2 priviledges when my class 1 runs out and renew my class 1 when i start my CPL or will I need to go back to Gatwick if I let my class 1 lapse?

Advice would be great thanks

i'm no pilot

im just someone looking into a flying career but from what i know you only need to go to gatwick for the initial class 1, after that i swear you can go to your nearest Class 1 AME in your area to get a renewal...the rest of your question i wouldn't know sorry.

I believe that you have 5 years to renew the Class One and then you have to go through the full initial again.

I asked my CFI, he checked with CAA and confirmed 5 years, didnt say if it's 5 years from last issue or 5 years from expiry.
Within the 5 years any AME is ok after that back to Gatwick
