jaa or caa class 1
After looking on the caa websites medical price list are you more restricted by having a class 1 caa medical than a jaa class 1 medical, which is £100 or so more in price?
Would there be any restrictions to what you could do with the caa class 1 medical as it has a less comprehensive test than the jaa class 1 medical?
Cheers postpilot28

Hi there,
You want the JAA class1 medical. The explanation i was given was something along the lines that the CAA medical existed prior to the UK joining the JAA or prior to the JAA class 1 medical existing. In any case the JAA is the one to go for. To my knowledge it's accepted at all the FTOs in the UK including CTC, Oxford and Cabair and should be accepted in every JAA member country.
I would assume that the CAA medical may only be used within the UK, so your trainer and operator would have to be UK based. I'm almost sure that the CAA told me their own CAA class 1 medical is now defunct in favor of the JAA. Don't take my word for it though its been a while since I looked into it and I forget.

My understanding friend ,is that you no longer have a chioce. The CAA do not issue CAA medicals.A class 1 is issued by the CAA but its a JAA medical.I stand to be corrected if im wrong

No, I think you're right. I know the scheme of charges lays down the cost of a CAA medical, but a trawl of the site demonstrates no further information regarding said medical at all.
Plenty of info on the JAA class 1 though.
It could have been an oversight on the part of the call line staff of course, but when I rang and asked to book in for a class 1, I was given no choice, and now have the JAA one.
