Medical Renewal €240 !!!!!!!!!

Rang up the aeromedical department in the Mater Private in Dublin this morning and was told €240 for a standard renewal. What in the name of god is up with that price ? I done my standard renewal in Iberia's medical facility in Madrid last year and it was €110. That is some remarkable price difference.

I think that price is extortionate. I think all I am going to do is a blood sample, urine sample and not sure what the last one is, lung fuction perhaps. I remember last year all I done was three tests all the above I think. In and out in last than 30mins. It is just a standard renewal not an extended. Well they can stick €240 (nearly £200) because I certainly am not paying that.

Yep, standard renewal in Ireland is €240, just had mine done earlier this week, but they are very nice there . Curious as to the prices in other JAR countries?

Unhappy Hmmmm . . . . . . . . . .

Well I done my renewal today in Madrid
Glad to hear that you DID your renewal in Madrid. Hope it was successful.

Presumably maintained your extremely economical approach to these things by cycling from Dublin to Madrid ! That would help to keep you fit ! Or, perhaps, one of MOL's £1 Ryanair tickets !

Red face all inclusive . . . . . . . . ?

My last renewal in England was 225 GBP!
In my practice that would be about maximum, including routine renewal, haemoglobin, peak flow, ECG and audiogram . . . . . . .

AND also including the dreaded VAT !

The only possible other addition is a blood test for cholesterol; lab charges about £60. But that is only ever required once, at the first class 1 renewal after turning 40.

That's probably quite reasonable, then. The OP did not specify what was allegedly on offer for the € 240 fee quoted, nor even which class of medical he was renewing !

Class 1 and I done Blood test, Urine sample, eye exam and doctor listening to my breathing etc and blood pressure. That was all. I was already in Madrid at the time but am returning to Dublin next week so thought it prudent to check the price before I returned.
