Fatty Liver Disease!!

Hi,
I had to do a few blood tests due to beiing temp unfit to fly , the results from the blood tests came back with my ALT at 95 and AST at 47.

I was told that this is a sign of early fatty liver disease and to get further checks done with my G.P. as he was concerned due to my BMI being 37.

Can anyone help with what the limits are for the AST and ALT and also if i am likely to loose my Class 1.

Red face dieting needed . . . . . . . !

Some useful information here on Liver Function Tests

http://www.atdn.org/simple/liverfun.html

A BMI of 37 is already risking losing a class 1, irrespective of the nature of any liver problem. More information would be needed to be able to advise properly, but that is the job of your GP and AME, who will both make sure that they know all they need to know to guide you.

Losing weight is likely to prove to be a fundamental essential in getting over all these things. Good luck with that !

Your liver enzymes are high . This may be due to some persistent infection or due to some medication you are taking like for weight or cholestrol reduction. You need to show to a gastroenterologist and rule out liver disease.
Also you need to reduce weight and control your diet.
A repeat Ultrasound of your abdomen , LFT , test for HbsAg and HCV and lipid profile will give you a correct picture.

Had a similar issue with high LFT's late last year, after various tests and an ultrasound discovered to be Fatty Liver. Although i'm not particularly overweight, I had increased my overall weight by 10kg in one year. Immediately stopped drinking completely, and went onto a very controlled diet. I had monthly LFT's and showed a rapid decrease, and have reached a reasonable level now. This however didn't have any affect on my Class 1; although my cholestoral in February was borderline high according to the AME, but has since reduced as well.
Pretty much on a diet of salad, fruit, veg, fish, white meats, brown bread and water, but has definately worked.

Should not be a problem as long as the strict diet is maintained. My ALT peaked at 143 but was down to 32 within 3 months after a (very boring) diet low in fat, protein and carbs (no beer!). 10Kg shed and BMI down from near 29 to just below 25....keep taking those celery sticks !
