Red face worth shopping around . . . . . . . . .

Can only speak for my own practice - Initial JAR class 2 SPL medical (which, of course, includes ECG at 45 ) - here is £ 160.

There are very wide variations, and obviously will depend on how far you are willing to travel.

One other point, many of the smaller practices will NOT have to add VAT.
The dreaded tax has to be added here, so the total ends up at £ 188.

Over age 40 you need ECGs at each renewal, and these will hike the price a bit.

Smile that's amazing . . . . . . . . . ! !

mine cost me £70 about 2 weeks ago
If that was an Initial class 2, and if it included an ECG and everything else, then that is extremely reasonable ! I suspect that that AME in Nottingham will be overwhelmed once hundreds of folk read that on here !

That's quite right, but ECG required at ALL class 2 INITIALS too, irrespective of age.

Ah, must have changed since 1990 when I had my initial Class 2.

Smile correct . . . . . . . !

Yes, you are right ! It all changed in July 1999, when we entered the JAR era. Prior to that licences and medicals were UK ones ( and the medical for PPL was actually a class 3 ). Under that system neither SPL's nor PPL's needed ECG's until after they turned 40 years.

That equates to approx £ 173, which is not too far away from what I said earlier. I wonder if that included VAT, though ?

A total cost of £120 for a Class 2 renewal with ECG in Luton - I think the initial was an extra £20 or £30. I don't think my AME is VAT registered - either way those are the costs actually paid by me.

Interesting info that everybody now has to have an initial ECG.

Wish I lived nearer Nottingham though

Cost of class 2 medical

variation in price really gets me as does the variation in how thorough the medical actually is.

I have had about 5 class 2 certificates now and each one with a different AME (because my work takes me all around the country). last month I paid only £90 (with ECG) and the Dr looked at absolutely everything including a good feel of the balls. In the past I paid £160 and never had to get undressed just lift up my T shrt..

Amazing really. what do others think???
