Class 1 Medical and Overweight
I have my Class 1 Medical booked this friday (25th) but have worries concerning my weight. I am 5ft 11 and weigh 14 stone 0lbs. I do not consider myself too unfit however as I often go to the gym and can complete 40 minutes on the cross trainer/eliptical trainer and burn 500-600 calories without too much of a problem. I then continue with other exercises with no real issue. I am never struggling for breath in these exercises and so consider myself not too unhealthy. My diet is also good.
But for my height I am overweight (by approx 1 stone). Will this be a problem in obtaining a class 1 medical certificate?
Regards,

No.
In the interests of trying to pad this out with ten letters, may I respectfully suggest you run twice as fast and burn off 1000-1200 calories, or perhaps refrain from that great Manchester delicacy, the Meat Pie.
In all seriousness, this has been discussed at length, and the only problem you should have is a raised eyebrow from the AME- the local one being slightly more portlier than thou.
Good luck.

Overweight is not a cause of unfitness for class 1 medicals any where in the world.
Only that you will be screened for associated diseases and investigations like blood sugar, lipid profile , Thyroid profile , USG Abdomen will be carried out. In case all are normal you wll be declared fit and advised to reduce weight.
By the way obesity is graded by the BMI method.
