Penalty of Allowing Class 1 to Expire by 5/6 Months?

Dear All,

I am currently studying ATPL groundschool and hour building.

My Class 1 expires on July 27. However, I could continue hour building with the license as a Class 2.

What would be the penalty of allowing the Class 1 to expire by 5/6 months?

Many thanks for your help.

No penalty. You can let it lapse, then just show up for a Class 1 renewal with an AME when you feel like it, up until 5 years after expiry.
