Valid medical 1 denied in another JAA country!
I'm just curious if this has happened to anyone else...
I was issued medical 1 in UK this year and was so happy. Six months later I moved to Finland and planning to start my integrated training there. I managed to pass the flight school entrance exams only to learn that against the former information my medical is not valid here and indeed I do "not qualify for any kind of medical certificate" whatsoever, including ATC!
My only choice seems to be to return to UK, which I don't really mind, but I would have appreciated avoiding moving back and forth between countries and paying almost one thousand euros for entrance tests and medical

Hmmm . . . . . . . . .

Two things spring to mind. The first is the perennial thorn of the "SOLI" (State Of Licence Issue) rules and regulations. We've heard about these on here in relation to acceptability of medicals for licences in Ireland. I think the initial issue of licence has to be by the same state as the initial issue of medical. Well, something like that, anyway. Worth asking more about.
The second thing is that you mentioned ATC . . . . . . . and that makes me wonder if what you have been issued with is, in fact, an old UK type Class 1, and not a JAR one at all ? Here in the UK ATCO's still operate with UK medicals - but unfortunately they would only be recognised in the UK. That just MIGHT explain why you have been told it's worthless in Finland.
Best of luck sorting it out - - - and do let us know how you get on in due course !
