I remember reading recently that an optician specialising in sunglasses for pilots has just opened up at Coventry airport.

Ah, just found it on Googoo. He'll stock them:

I've only just started my training, but I have two pairs of Serengetis both with Drivers Gradient lenses that I wear both day to day and for driving, and I now swear by them! It did help that a friend was manager of a Bolle store here in Melbourne where they stock them, so I got a good discount, but they are not exessively expensive anyway.

Cool

I just bought myself a pair of V:one Magneto sunglasses. They were recommended to me by a flying instructor friend who couldn't stop raving about them.

They are marketed as sunglasses for pilots so I am surprised to not see much about them on this forum.

I personally am very impressed with them, great visibility in almost all conditions cutting the glare even when flying into a setting sun. They're really comfortable too, I had forgotten i was wearing them a few times but I look pretty damn cool in them anyway

Highly recommended.

Also have a pair of Serengeti Velocity frames with Driver Gradient lenses.
Absolutely love them - hugely better than my old Randolph Aviators.
Thumbs up from me.

As above, would love to know where in the UK you can try some Serengeti's on. Does anyone know any good retailers down south? (Coventry's quite a long way to go for some sunnies, for me!) (And anywhere cheap to get them in the UK?!)

Cheers.

Serengeti Pilot 1

Actually whilst on the subject of Serengeti. Does anyone have any experience of using the 'Pilot 1' model. It's the one with the cable temple fit. How do you find them to wear? Or any other 'cable templed' set of glasses for that matter? Are they as practical for flying as they make out, or are they a pain?

Any views please.

As far as I'm aware, bb503, the 'Pilot 1' frame is brand new to Serengeti. I'm not even sure if they are available in the UK yet.

FWIW, the 'Pilot 1' frame looks very similar to the Velocity frame, albeit with the curly ends. There have been a few occasions when my Velocitys have fallen forward as I've tilted my head forward. I guess that the curly ends will solve this.

Incidentally, I bought my first pair of Serengetis from a small independent optician in Oxford. Have you tried contacting the UK distributors ([email protected]) to find out where your local stockists are?

Thanks Bravo73, very useful. I guess the cable thing seems to make sense. Just not ever seen anyone using them. And I'll get on that email address.

Muchos gracias.

And any real life cable temple wearers out there... speak up!
