Health Insurance

I fly for a small airline which entails spending 3 to 4 days per week abroad. The thought recently occurred to me, if I was unlucky enough to end up in hospital abroad am I insured. I have asked my employer and am awaiting a reply. I was wondering however what the normal situation is. Are airlines liable for their crew members medical fees while abroad. I would imagine that for an accident directly work related they are ie on board the aircraft or coming and going from the aircraft. But what about if you are on a 3 day lay over in a hotel and you get food poisoned or something like that ?
