Cost of 1st class medical

Orite chaps, im 18 years old and currently training for my ppl, you need a class 2 medical for this but if im thinking of going the commercial route (which i am) would anyone on here suggest that i try for a class one medical instead and if so how much do they cost and where can you get them?

I would really appreciate any advice as il be going solo in a few hours and would like to get the medical out of the way, cheers.

Absolutely go straight to the Class 1 Medical if you intend going through to commercial. Two reasons:

1) Saves money - doing a Class 1 is NO cheaper if you already have a Class 2, so why pay for both?

2) If there is any reason you can't pass a Class 1, then it is better to find out now rather than further down the track if you are not interested in only having a PPL.

Good luck and welcome to our wonderful world

One point that I can't believe no-one has mentioned yet (but they are both from downunder). You'll have to go to Gatwick for your INITIAL Class 1, and it will cost you something over £300. After that, any AME can do the renewals, and the cost is pretty similar to Class 2...might be more occasionally, as I think there are one or two extra tests, but that may just be for we oldies.

So if you're going solo soon, save your pennies quick, give Gatwick a call and book it, and be ready for a long trip south.
