Apparent sinus trouble- any ideas?
Background first: I am not a professional pilot. I am however aiming for a career as one and am currently working in 9-5 office land to save the money for training.
I hold a JAA Class 2 but have not got a Class one as i only want to incur the significant extra expense immediately before i start training.
However recently i have been suffering with what i think is sinus trouble. Last winter i seemed to pick up a headcold which lasted for ever. The main symptom was a blocked nose. This would vary randomly between not being able to breathe through both nostrils, to being able to breathe through one. When only one nostril was blocked, it could be either nostril. For example i could wake up being able to breathe through my left nostril only, whereby if i close the left nostril i can breathe through my mouth only, but within an hour and without me noticing suddenly i would be breathing through my right nostril only, the apparent blockage shifting to the other nostril.
I do not know what is causing the blockage. i have searched endlessly on google and sinus trouble seems to be associated with discharge or mucus which i do not have.
My sinuses however do appear to me to be irritated or swollen. Directly above and below my eyebrows appear to be 'puffy' for want of a better description. Also I generally have trouble getting my right ear to 'pop.'
I have tried sudafed tablets and various nasal sprays which do not seem to work. I also mentioned it to my GP at a recent visit and he suggested a steroid injection might sort it. Does this sound plausible?
I am wondering has anybody experienced anything similar to this- apparent blockage switching nostrils but never going away - as it is quite annoying and I do not know where to go from here. It's been constant over the last 6-8 weeks or more and I'm wondering would i need to see an ENT specialist?
Any helpful suggestions most welcome.

Two simple thoughts.Is there something in the office environment causing this?
I suffered from this for about 4 months, trying various potions etc, but what worked for me was fill a bowl with boiling hot water, towel over your head and inhale the steam.Nice and simple.I hope it works for you.
