Medication restrictions?

It seems that my aches & stiffness early morning is caused by something called 'polymyalgia rheumatica'. I may need medication, 10-15mg of prednisone. I have just successfully passed my (class2) medical, and been advised that I shouldn't fly if I need this medication. According to my research, the medication might be needed for up to 4 years!!!
I am due to see my GP again in a couple of weeks, and will resist any medication of that kind if possible. The condition is not that bad, and the occasional pain killer before breakfast is usually enough to to get me going OK.
Any comments? Is this the end?? What's the probability of it all going away again???
