Bi Polar successes?

I lost my Australian ATPL almost 4 years ago when diagonised with Bi Polar in mid life.
Subsequent treatment and medication has been completely effective.
I have been able to gradually reduce medication levels and only visit my Psychiatrist for monitoring every 3 months.
My life is quite normal ( not only in my view ) and I would like to apply for a Class 2 medical.
Has anyone been through this trial and come out at the other end with a medical certificate?
It seems I will need to maintain a daily medication regime for the rest of my life, but does this mean I can't even qualify for a Class 2?
