Bad News, Need Expert Advice
i just came back form eye check-up.. checking for Malaysian DCA Class-1
according to the opthalmology,
i will be issued a Class-1 Medical with Restriction(Flying at night)
that's because my correction limit exceeded the allowable limit
R:-4.50D -1.75D AStig
L:-4.25D -1.75D Astig
According to the Doctor,
-4.5D + 0.875D(half of 1.75D of my astig) = 5.375D(exceeded the given limit of -5D)
he say.. for those who flew for some years.....exceeding the limit is ok.. but as for my case(initial) my class-1 will have restriction.

Seems a tough decision.....is there an appeal process? Can you get that restriction removed at a later date? i.e. after you have proven youre flying abilities are ok and get your instructor to write a letter.
Explore all the options. Its only the first hurdle!
Not expert advice but hope this helps. Suggest for expert advice you seek second opinions from AMEs (authorised medical examiners) in malaysia who may have seen similar cases.

hmm..
actually..
That's why the Consultant Opthalmologist told me..
i have an appointment on Wednesday with the Aviation Doctor For my Class-1.
If he issue me with restriction, i may have to speak to him what can i do..
Afterall... i heard of someone flying unrestricted on Malaysian REgistered Aircraft with a correction of -6D. and that's because he has flown for sometime....
then .. What the point of restricting my Medical just because i haven't flown before.. LOL...
sometimes.. Malaysians are funny....
and our neighbour singapore..
i asked them... according to CAAS(singapore) unaided cannot be worse than 6/60, aided must be 6/6 each eye.
if unaided vision exceed 6/60, A Full-Opthalmologist Report is Required to ensure that there's no pathological eye disease.
BTW.. on my class-2 ..
the only problem is refractive error..
the doctor marks me NIL for:
Manifest Hypermetropia
Esophoria
Exophoria
Hyperphoria
BTW what's Heterophoria Maddoxrod?
underthis he wrote: Ti(can't read.. doctor's writing) vision
My Other option , according to the opthalmology is
Perform LASIK Surgery and wait 1-year. after that, do som,e test and see if i pass....
he said not every one past the POST-Lasik test, so he advice me not to..

Re: Bad News, Need Expert Advice
any advice? experienced pilots on my particular case?
i have an appointment with Aviation Physician this wednesday.
The Opthalmologist(not Aviation Physician) said i can only be issued with a Class-1 With restriction of night flying...
any chance that the Aviation Physician will issue my without restriction?
lol.. i think it's funny.... according to the opthalmologist... it's ok for experience pilot to exceed the limit.. but it's not ok for initial pilots...??what's the point?
hmm i was thinking.. ..of the metheod below
get an oversea license.. since i'm well within UK CAA, CASA, FAA standards.. fly for some years.. then return to malaysia and request for the restriction to be removed... is it possible?

The "restriction" will only require that you train on UK-registered a/c and will be lifted on completion of your commerical training i.e. you'll have a bog-standard Class I medical. That's the route I have to follow. No big deal.
