Eyes and class 1
I've just rung the CAA to book a day for my class 1 initial. Howver, one of my eyes (left) is -5.25 diops, and according the website the limit is -5.
Anyone know if this is up to date? Will it totally stop the class 1 issue?

I don't think you'll have any problems. I'm -5.5 in one eye and -5.25 in the other (including astigmatism) and they said in a letter beforehand that this was borderline acceptable and put me in for an eyes first check.
Everything went well and the optometrist said that even though it was borderline, my corrected vision was extremely good and he had no worries whatsoever.
I fully sympathise with you though, I know exactly what it's like.

Psychophysiological entity
Following posting on PVD, and later the removal of my vitreous gel, I have taken a renewed and personal interest in cataract surgery lately.
Any trauma to the eye can seemingly trigger a cataract, and I have just gone through this procedure. I opted for a fixed focus lense. I had intended to update this in a dedicated thread, but was waiting for some settling after the op.
There is a lense that will accommodate over a considerable range available now. [ An extra $2,500 above the fixed lense price.]
Recently when I asked about the logic in having a lens changed instead of LASIC, it seemed that in extreme cases, it might save the day--when the CAA will not accept a huge DIFFERENCE, PRIOR to LASIC
Happily, it does sound as though you do not need to take any extreme action for now.
Of course, resorting to any tampering with a healthy eye should be avoided, unless it means the total loss of one's career.
People have said to me that on waking the next day, it was the first time in their lives that they could see clearly across the room.
I did not have time to wait, but I feel that withing the next few years, there will be a safe answer to the need for extreme correction.

Spoke to the optometrist at the CAA said that if your within the retest requirements which go to -8 diops, then you can get a Class one with deviation.
So to get the class one with deviation upgraded to a class one, you need to:
1. Get a PPL
2. Show stability in your eyesight
Stability means, it hasnt changed much in the past 3 years. I think the limit is 0.25 diops a year.
This is where i might be screwed cos my right eye hasnt changed but my left eye has by 1 diops. But hopefully I'll be able to pass

I would appear to be in a very similar situation to TKF, one eye being about -4, the other about -5 or possibly -5.25. Like him I have a PPL so I suppose I should be ok, and being older than him my eyes are less likely to deteriorate (not that you won't be ok too KTF!) I had better get it booked!
