Eyesight-radial Keratomy Surgery
I have read a number of comments recently regarding Laser surgery and the passing of a Class 1 medical.
I had radial keratomy surgery to correct short sight way back in 1991(this was in the days before laser surgery was widely available). 14 years later, and I still pass regular eyesight checks with a reading of 6/6 in each eye without correction.
I am now nearly 50yrs of age,and would like to get a flying instructor qualification for teaching at PPL level. This now requires a class 1 medical, and I was wondering whether anyone knows what the CAA view is to this surgery. I do know that, for whatever reason, most police forces throughout the UK will not accept canidates who have undergone this type of surgery, although they will with laser! They list side effects as their reason for not accepting it.
My argument would be,I am now 14yrs 'down the road' from the surgery, and retain excellent uncorrected vision.
Thanks in advance for any person who can offer advice.

Looks like you will be fine, grounded for 1yr post op (which you have obviously completed), aslong as your pre-op refraction was <+/-5D your fine it seems.
