Class 1 expiration

Hi all,
I am just after a little friendly advice if poss.I have just completed my jar cpl but don't plan on starting IR until april/may.My class 1 medical expires in the next few days, but im not sure whether it may be more sensible to leave until just before my IR.My thinking is that it seems silly to rush out and renew it to then not fly for a little while therefore wasting a couple of months worth of it.If i do let it lapse,is the renewal any different/more intense etc?

Thanks in advance
PP

Hi,

I have just renewed mine yesterday after it expired in 2003.
It is not a major headache and depending on when your extras expire (ECG etc) you can let it lapse for a while. I would suggest doing what you suggest and get it done a short while before you continue training. The biggest question to ask yourself is am I under 30 if so I have 5 Years on the CLass 1.

Rgds

Thanks wafer,
i am under 30 and had original class 1 in 2002 so should therefore be fine.

Cheers again
