Mercenary Ali,

You are making a big assumption. katiekoo just wanted to know her where she stands.

She may expect the world to look after her and her baby , she may not but you can't tell from her post.

So what do you do? Cos you have a bee in your bonnet re paid maternity leave , you automatically assume the worst about someone.

I do agree that many people choose (or don't choose) to have children when they are not in a healthy financial position.

The reality is, is that breeding seems to be quite a normal thing for most humans (even thought it doesn't appeal to moi). And in a way society as a whole needs to pay for this.

One would hope that at the very least one could expect to take maternity leave and know they had the right to come back to their job.

Ooh I could say so much more!! i will control myself though.

PS Mr Ali, I'm not sure you understand what socialism is about. Marx had alot to say about the ownership of means of production, not alot about maternity leave though.

Good to see some people actually answering the original question and giving some sound information. Pity, but typical, to see some bigotted remarks which achieve nothing whatsoever except get some chauvanist opinion off someones (probably puny) chest. Good luck to katiekoo12002 - presumably someone who has put much time, money and effort into qualifying and getting a job and most likely would like to carry on working afterwards.

What is the point of having a baby then going back to work? You miss out on all the developments of the child, whoever looks after it has all those pleasures not the parent.

MAli/WorkingHard:

How do you think you appeared on the face of this earth - a stork was it?

Go back to your caves...the girl was trying to make everyone's life easier by asking. I'm sure you would appreciate that if you were a small employer but with your attitudes I am sure you probably couldn't handle the pressure before you wound everyone up with an opinionated view of how you are best as a bloke.

And before you ask I am not a repressed, female-dominated wuss.

KatieKoo - good luck. Sure you can deal with this lot anyway being in such a male-dominated industry.

Reheat... Mercenary Ali and Working Hard are entitled to their view. Either way, the topic is way off track. Either address it or we lock it.

Hands up any male pilots out there who do anything like ride motorbikes, ski, sail, play rugby, drive round the M25 after a night flight, etc. etc.
Right, now if any of you should happen to break a leg/ collarbone, etc. whilst involved in any activity other than sitting in your armchair then I think your employer should refuse to pay you a single penny of sick pay. After all, it was entirely self inflicted - you chose to do the activity so you must now face the consequences. You knew the risks yet you still took them.
In fact, I think sex should be banned for all male pilots lest they should happen to create a child. Because its me, the taxpayer, who would have to pay for your wife's visits to her Doctor, hospital appointments, the actual birth, all those follow up visits to the GP, child allowance, etc. etc.
I don't want to pay so no one should have children. Ever.

Get the picture?
