fish FAA Class 2 initial in the UK

Hey there,

I'm planning to saunter over to the US later this year, visas and approvals in hand, to do some flight training. Currently I'm the holder of both JAA PPL and a JAA Class 1 medical, both issued in the UK.

I'm hoping to go the the States to gain the FAA PPL first before progressing onto the FAA CPL/ME/IR.

My questions consequently would be:
  • Can I get the inital FAA Class 2 certificate issued in the UK before I go? Will this cause problems? I understand that there can sometimes be issues undertaking flight training in the US on the strength of FAA Medicals issued abroad.
  • Can I get the cert issued on the basis of my existing JAA medical or is a full examination required?

The AME that performs my JAA medical examination is also FAA qualified so notwithstanding any additional complications that might be aired here, he should be able to issue me with the right ticket.

All advice greatfully received. Many thanks.

Charley

Yes he can.

Make sure that you get the appropriate ticket though, you need a student license and medical certificate not just a medical.

I got a FAR Class 1 medical in Denmark. I have a JAR Class 2 medical and they used some info from that, which reduced the cost.

Why do you want to take a FAR CPL license, when you got a JAR Class 1 medical?
