FAA / JAA C1 Visiual Requirements
I think it is widely accepted that the FAA visual requirements are a bit relaxed then the JAA's.
I just had a look at the FAA requirents:
"§ 67.103 Eye.
Eye standards for a firstclass airman medical certificate are:
(a) Distant visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye separately, with or without corrective lenses. If corrective lenses (spectacles or contact lenses) are necessary for 20/20 vision, the person may be eligible only on the condition that corrective lenses are worn while exercising the privileges of an airman certificate."
How is it that the JAA allows 20/30 (6/9) monocular where as the FAA demands 20/20 (6/6) monocular, isnt the FAA 'supposed' to be less stringent? Did I miss something?
btw, i did notice they allow 6D correction (as opposed to JAA 5D)...

I think the main reason that the FAA Class I visual standards are said to be, in general, more relaxed than the JAA Class I visual standards is that the FAA effectively say as long as your vision is correctable to 20/20 or better then no problem, whereas the JAA say vision must be correctable to 20/20 AND be of a minimum standard WITHOUT any correction.
I think this is the main point people are referring to when they say the FAA are less stringent than the JAA in this regard.
I stand to be corrected though.
