Class 1 Medical or Specialist first ????
Hi guys..
I've always known that I had a minor squint and wasn't shocked when my optician told me i was outside the limits for my class one visual due to a slight eye muscle imbalance...
My saving grace was PPRUNE and all of the previous threads on this subject which gave me hope that a specialist might find me suitable.
My problem is this... do I need to go and get a fail on my class one before seeing a specialist and if so do I have to see a particular doctor as directed by the CAA med team?
Or can i do this the sensible way around?
The problem is distance you see ... I live in Dubai... Gatwick is a bit of a swim...
Can anyone help?
Much apreciated....
Scott

From my experience, I followed this procedure:-
-Contacted the medics at Gatwick who requested a report from my doctor detailing my condition
-sent in the report
-was contacted a month later and told to book an appointment
with the CAA ophthalmic specialist
- saw the CAA specialist who examined me and verbally advised me on my suitability to hold a Class 1.
- got the written report from him three weeks later and was then told to book an appointment for an initial class 1 medical examination.
So from this, I think you see their specialist first before booking the class 1. Either way, it looks like it will involve a couple of trips to Gatwick. Best bet is to give them a call on +44 (0) 1293573700 and see what they say.
Hope this helps,
Good luck with it

Thank you very much..
I haven't been a member of PPRUNE for too long but i can say that i am surprised at how friendly and helpful everyone is..
Glad to be part of the circle...
Perhaps its a mutual feeling of professional frustration?
Anyway best of luck to you all and maybe we can have a drink on a layover sometime!
