PPL in Chile? Medical etc?

Hi,
I am a 20 year old student from Kent in England on my year abroad from university, currently in Santiago de Chile.
I am teaching English out here but as a future BA pilot, fingers crossed, i am going to get my PPL now, as because of the seriously low prices, it would be criminal not to!

I am doing my medical at the moment and i am a little confused. Am i doing a US based medical which will be different to the UK or is this Class 1 universal?

Also, what will i need to do when i get back to the UK in Oct 2005 to get my UK license?

I am sorry if this has been covered 100 times before but this is my future career that i am talking about and so therefore, i want to be sure that i know what i am doing every step of the way!

Many thanks!

Oli
