Smoking & Class 1

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if being Smoker or a former Smoker will harm my chances of getting a Class 1 ?
I've not Smoked for over six years and I regularly try to keep fit through running about 4-5 miles several times a week and I'm never out of breath when I've finished, but when I had my Class 2 almost a couple of years ago the Doc said my breath test was a little low but ok all the same.

What do they actually look for in the Class 1 breath test ? is it the same or more stringent than the Class 2 ?

Cheers

It'll be the same test as in the class two. The main thing in this test is technique.

I wouldn't worry if you run that much and haven't smoked in a long time.

If you are worried about your lung capacity try swimming. That is the best exercise by far to improve it although you have to accept that it would take a significant amount of time to do so.

Hi Fred4000,

Thanks for the reply,

What do you mean by technique ? I thought you just blow in to this tube until you
go blue in the face ??? What is the required minimum we have to get to ??

Thanks

Wouldn't worry too much about that old chap.

If you have seen what I see, holding class one medicals, then if you do not pass, you should not be near an A/C.

Once you start the commercial flying training, you might give up smoking by default becuase flying will take all your disposable income!
