Flintstones. A question for 'old people'

I was stumped for an answer to this question that our daughter dumped on us this morning...

"Why do Fred and Betty have whites round their eyes but Wilma and Barney don't?"

I like to believe that I am pretty good on Situational Awareness but I had never noticed this before....and now it is stuck in my head. Help!

Does replying to this imply that I am an 'old people' now and full of sage advice and wisdom?
Well, let me prove otherwise.

"Why do Fred and Betty have whites round their eyes but Wilma and Barney don't?"
Because that's how the animator drew them.

Diversity and inclusivity compliance.

Weren't they the first couple in the U.S. to be shown on T.V. in bed to-gether?

There are larger issues to be considered here. Dinosaurs were extinct long before humans arrived yet the Flintstone's have a pet dinosaur Dino. This could lead to children believing that humans and dinosaurs co-existed at the same time. :ugh:

Dino was only a small dinosaur; the BIG ones had died off.

I must correct you, there were larger dinosaurs working in the quarry where Fred and Barney worked.

And their aircraft were pterosaurs as I recall...

Who says the dinosaurs had all died out by then? Maybe Hanna-Barbera know something that everyone else doesn't :E

How long before the animal rights brigade dive into this thread?

Kiltrash 6th Feb 2019 11:29

and their car was Zero emission, how forward thinking was that

Back to the OP question it was so that when Fred was locked out the house at night in the dark, so that we could all see his predicament, ignoring the fact the windows had no glass and he could get back in that way

I had roast dinosaur for lunch the other day, and very good it was too!

I remember watching the Flintstones back in the day . For me the best part was the 'technology' Fred,s low emissions car, the dinosaur backhoes, and a record player (itself seemingly of a flintstone era) comprising a tortoise and along beaked bird and many others I cannot remember but which were cleverly done and presented . And I never noticed the eye thing till now,

Because when Fred and Betty are down at the shops Wilma and Barney get wrecked on weed and screw eachothers brains out.

Check out "The Honeymooners," when you can see where Hanna-Barbera got the idea for the Flintstones. Fred Flintstone is patterned on Ralph Kramden, and Barney Rubble is patterned on Ralph's sidekick Ed Norton.

I think there is some Jesus-freak Christian theme park where Jesus mixes it up with the dinosaurs, or maybe that is Noah, loading them on his ark. It is odd that there are no dinosaurs in the Bible, isn't it?

obgraham 6th Feb 2019 12:53

Why would there be dinosaurs in the Bible? They were all gone by 4000 years ago.
