Heavy Metal Fan Flies to Spain instead of Penzance!

After attending a Burns night supper in Edinburgh, an event to promote the launch of Primordial Radio's new Tartan products 'Pride of Primordial', Scott Hackett known as Full Metal Hackett to his friends, boarded what he thought was his return flight to Penzance. Obviously, Scott had such a good night that he failed to notice that his flight was actually going to Allicante.

A Primordial Radio spokesperson was unavailable for comment as they had a sore head.
An unnamed source said "This is nothing to do with us, we are not a cult"

Should he be allowed out without his mother ??

I’d be interested to know where “Penzance airport” is exactly. Certainly nowhere near Penzance!

The story looks daft but before you criticise him too much you try and book an internal flight in UK.

Daughter a few years ago booked Newcastle to Bristol - perfect, direct flight £20.

Recently BiL tried to book Humberside to Newquay - around £400 each. Naturally you look for cheaper where cost is more important than time. There were cheaper flights which included one or two stops, all in Europe. That was his mistake.

Will Brexit make it easier? :)

Years ago the flights from NQY to LHR used to have a leg that (IIRC) used to include NCL. I can't remember which way around the route went, but it was a triangular route, so in one direction flights would go via NCL (I think), making it a pretty long trip.

I once made the same mistake. My flight to London ended up in London, Ontario.

That was 15 years ago! :E

Years ago the flights from NQY to LHW
Newquay to Lanzhou via Newcastle? Blimey... ;)

Racedo, perhaps an absence of Doombar in Edinburgh contributed to his fuddlement...

Going via Newcastle to LHW wouldn't add much distance, given that the latter is the designator for Lanzhou, Gansu Province, China. :O

My bad, meant to type LHR, but must have had a brain fart (or just finger trouble...). I'll correct the errant character in the post.

Reminds me of the Japanese woman some years ago picked up wandering around Torquay at midnight with her suitcase. A university professor, she had thought she was on the right train going from London to Turkey to take up her teaching post.

As this is an aviation site, are we expected to know the airport designator of every major and minor hub off by heart?

LHW, LHR, who gives a stuff?.

For the many who aren't gods of the sky (and I was one once, so there!) can't one just write Heathrow, Gatwick etc ?

I bet you LHR's have all got big watches too!

Rant over.

Hope you weren't the pilot!

“..LHR LHW who gives a stuff”. Not me but since the thread is about mistaken airline destinations it’s not really too far off-topic.

It happens in Finland too.

My wife was recently booking a flight from Ivalo to Helsinki (think Inverness to Heathrow, about hour and a half).

One of the options on the Finnair website routed Ivalo to Gatwick with change of airport to Heathrow and then to Helsinki.

Took 16hours if I remember.

10-15 years ago a guy going from UK to Santiago ended up wondering why his flight was a lot longer than expected. Santiago de Compostella was really not that far from UK, unfortunately Santiago in Chile was, which is where he ended up.

Now this is one mistake that goes well.

I vaguely remember an Indian cricket player being called last minute for a test in Oz and ending up in Tanzania instead of Tasmania

The Invasion of Sweden by Italian troops on a Nato exercise in 2007 is up there with airport mistakes, they landed at Kristianstad airport instead of Kristiansand in Norway.

Remember the Chelsea fans who were off to a football match at Stamford Bridge whose satnav took them to Stamford Bridge in Yorkshire (sight of a different sort of battle) ? As somebody said at the time, it was lucky the match wasn't being played at The Emirates!

Tsk ! that was entirely the minions fault TTN....the gels came from frightfully good stock ( automatic exoneration from blame or being at fault ) but, sadly, lacked a basic understanding of UK geography and locations .......and the ability to read those large green and /or blue road signs.

Taxiiing out for the last 2 sectors of a busy week I was giving the usual spiel to the pax when I had a total brain fart, I got the "flight to............." bit when I completely forgot. 137 passengers, 5 crew and the FO in melt down when I kept the button pressed and said to the FO, "Where the bloody hell are we going?"

The Chief Pilot was quite polite during the subsequent chat (one of the pax had complained) and suggested I start taking more notice of what went into the destination section of the magic box.
