World Cup qualifying - Poland v England

Team that wins the toss will play with the tide. Had to love the ironic cheers every time the ref threw the ball around.

Physio services to be provided by the RNLI

dead_pan 16th Oct 2012 19:22

I think we should bring our subs on early, given the conditions.

tony draper 16th Oct 2012 19:40

If they play five minutes then abandon the match they probably don't have to give the punters their money back, :E

Evening Star 16th Oct 2012 19:47

Punters?

Watching the latest pitch inspection, there will only be one type of punting tonight.:}

G-CPTN 16th Oct 2012 19:50

Apparently Poland don't want to play as their captain is injured.

Fox3WheresMyBanana 16th Oct 2012 20:21

Apparently the stadium roof cannot be closed whilst it is still raining. (Why?)

It has stopped raining, but they haven't started to close the roof . . .

Designed and built by an English company?:O

It's not the rain but the wind that stopped it being closed just now.
Either the Polish weather service is a bloke with a bit of string on his window, or someone who makes decisions at the stadium is about to become someone who cleans toilets.

Roof design is a tricky business

maliyahsdad2 16th Oct 2012 21:40

From wiki

Under the roof there are four LED display screens hung up. Each of them has an area of 200 m
:ooh:

I felt sorry for the so called "Polish media girl", who obviously took the fall for some high ranking, or should that be (*anking!), manager.
Who in their right mind would issue a statement that "if we manage to close the roof, we can dry the pitch out in 30 mins with heating"! The place would have been like a sauna if such heating existed.

Think steam room. Was rather looking forward to that ... about the same as a League 2 match on a foggy November Saturday afternoon, although just a little bit warmer :hmm:.

Seldomfitforpurpose 17th Oct 2012 00:26

Can't think who we played but anyone remember the first match in the new Wembley Stadium. Millions and millions spent on it, no closing roof and the pitch was like a swamp.....:=

sitigeltfel 17th Oct 2012 05:48

The cancellation put paid to diving in the penalty area.

MagnusP 17th Oct 2012 09:35

Degree of difficulty, 3.2.

Alloa Akbar 17th Oct 2012 09:42

I said to the other half last night that the Organizers should have ignored the Polish weather forecast and got that Russian weather forecaster - Rudolph whats-his-name in, he would have closed the roof.. After all Rudolph The Red knows rain dear!!

:O

Oh come on, it was funny!
