And where are those people you refer to now, Captain Dart?

Captain Dart 3rd Jul 2016 08:19

You tell me and we'll both know. It's a worry, actually.

SOPS 3rd Jul 2016 09:35

A very big worry.

Most amusing that Turnbulls catch phrase was vote Lib for stability and he is already facing a leadership spill.
If Phony Tony gets the Guernsey then he will have to do a deal with Hanson who he helped put in jail. You couldn't make this stuff up!
Labor to form government anyone!!!!

Labor to form government anyone!!!!
I was thinking the same thing myself this morning. (Must ask my doctor to increase the dosage. :8)

If Turnbull is rolled (as he deserves to be), there would seem to be little reason remaining for the primarily leftist independents to support the Coalition.

Of course, the Nationals could always ditch the losers and link up with the resurgent party. :E

At the local level, we have a Territory election in August with polling suggesting the ruling CLP will be left with 2 seats out of 25. They have called for nominations for preselection to replace our recently disgraced Deputy Treasurer. I'll be interested to see who is foolish enough to enter the campaign with such a short lead-in time and inheriting the baggage left by the predecessor.

Is it just me or does the fact that vote counting will resume on Tuesday highlight how stuffed this country is? We can't even decide who the government will be without a couple of RDOs and it is not like an election occurs every week.

Flying Binghi 4th Jul 2016 01:20

Heh, not every week, though we may have another election in less then a year..:)

Interesting observation made whilst Tony Abbott were still Prime Minister...

Reputedly this is to cover for any security 'anomalies' highlighted when a whole bunch of ballot papers went missing somewhere in a previous event.

Having said that, I am aware of some quite strange arrangements for collection (or delivery) of ballot boxes in the local region. Then there are reports of some polling places running out of ballot papers at some booths. It doesn't make for a lot of confidence in the system.

Who is going to win? Certainly not the Australian people! We seem destined for another period of uncertainty and instability. Hang on everybody, there's more turbulence ahead!

FOR

Why can't we just vote online?

You could hover your mouse over the name and it would tell you their policies, how cheesy their grin is, previous criminal convictions etc.

Instant result, much cheaper than paying all those people to cross names off a list, nobody can vote twice and best of all no running the gauntlet of the idiots and their "how to vote" cards.

I urged Malcolm Turnbull to stay: John Howard

John Howard's continuing influence has been underlined by revelations the former prime minister helped convince Malcolm Turnbull to stay in politics.

"I think I played a part in persuading him not to retire," says Mr Howard

"He spoke to me the day after he'd made his announcement (to leave) and said, 'I think I've done the wrong thing'," recalls Mr Howard of the conversation six months ago. "I said to him, 'Change your mind - the party will be delighted and you'll increase your majority in Wentworth'.

"I was delighted he stayed. Perhaps some of his colleagues weren't, but I was. He adds a dimension."

Today, thanks in part to John Howard, a 'delighted' party is considering the new 'dimensions' explored by the turnBull led Liberal party...

Good idea, impossible in practice. How exactly would you stop people voting twice without associating their identity with a particular vote? How do you know the ballots have not or cannot be tampered with?

Ways of doing it have been postulated by computer scientists for yonks. There's no way to make it more or even as secure than the system we have now without making it less anonymous.

Banks spend millions keeping their systems secure from hackers and they have the benefit of being required to identify the owner every single dollar and cent. How much would it cost to develop an anonymous system for counting votes?

I think people can stand to wait a few days for a perfectly reliable count using the KISS method - pen and paper. As was said, it's not like there's an election every week. You lot are starting to sound like "Gen Y" and their need for instant gratification ;)

Jeps 4th Jul 2016 06:31

So what shall we do now? I'm assuming this is going to be fairly terminal for Turnbull. But if you install someone else in this clusterfook who is going to want the job? I would say Bishop is next in line, seems to have respect from all corners. But would you potentially want to risk the possibility of having a great future female PM in this environment? Do you put up a patsy and sail on into the jaws of defeat if that's what its looking like? or do you just stick with Turnbull and see what happens? Why would you be a politician. Second crappiest job to being a sports coach :P

If you saw the cartoon of Pauline today in the Australian, then you could be forgiven for thinking of his reincarnate! :E

Is it just me?
Or ... is anybody else getting a bit tired of Binghi's Broken-record Blatherings?

Please, Binghi ... when you post on matters directly to do with aviation, it's generally a worthwhile contribution.
On the other hand, your politically-motivated posts come across as, (how should I put it?), somewhat less than insightful.
Can we up the standard a little, please?
Do you mind?

Stanwell 7th Jul 2016 08:04

OK Stan, you say, where's your contribution?
I'll just ask a question, then.
Where do we go from here?

On one hand, we have Malcolm and his backyard full of mammonish mangy mutts (including one that should be put down ASAP).
On the other, there's Shorten and his collection of shifty shysters (they're still lurking behind the gate, let me tell you).
Answers on the back of a beer-coaster, please.

CoodaShooda 7th Jul 2016 08:51

Not an advocate of Voltaire then Stan?

Stanwell 7th Jul 2016 09:02

heh, heh, heh ... :ok:

My lovely mum rang me tonight and said that she had a robocall saying that the greens had won! Took me a while, but she settled down when I said that it looked as though it was going to finish up with around 76/69/5.
How many did the greens get then she asked? To save confusion I lied and said two!
