Pretty sure these kind of "direct engagement" programs that ask for funding are designed to do exactly that SOPS. Teach English, "western" social norms etc. Helping them integrate.

If you can't read anything on the internet except what is written in Arabic, it's little wonder so many of them end up getting radicalised.

Out of interest, if you couldn't get a job in the largest commercial centre in the country, where specifically would you go next with no money and limited English?

chuboy 19th Jun 2015 00:00

By the way Australia does have more room. Most of our population is in major city centres. Accepting that the Simpson Desert is indeed uninhabitable, there is still more than enough land near our coasts to support a larger population.

I understand we export most of the food we grow and import most of the food we eat. So the topsoil argument seems a bit funny to me?

parabellum 19th Jun 2015 05:55

Disagree strongly Chuboy, unless, of course, you want to see arable farm land and grazing land converted into low cost housing commission estates with these areas becoming a welfare slum. I live in rural Victoria and the infrastructure is already lagging behind a very gradual increase in population yet we have the fifth highest rates in the entire state.

I understand we export most of the food we grow and import most of the food we eat. So the topsoil argument seems a bit funny to me?
Well, if you have your way and increase the population then it will become necessary to grow and export more food to cover import costs of the additional food required to feed the increased population, but you have just built houses all over the food producing land, where to now?

bosnich71 19th Jun 2015 07:19

Chuboy ......"if you can't read anything on the internet except what is written in Arabic" etc.
You could argue that premise if all of those who are travelling to join ISIS didn't speak English whereas some, if not all, of those from Britain not only speak English but do so with a strong regional accent as they were born and raised in that country. As SOPS has stated it's the 'victim' mentality again and there's nothing new about that.

SOPS 19th Jun 2015 08:52

Scroll down to the bottom of this article, more victim mentality.

I guess Dum Dum will be having his " welcome to Jesus moment" now that the catholic top dog has acknowledged climate change. He might even recover from his windmill syndrome that he caught at Rottnest Island.

Wonder if the Pope will give any though to the worlds burgeoning over population growth and his no birth control policies (Rhythm method aside).

Meanwhile, is anyone aware of any bookies' odds being offered on Bill Shorten being given the heave ho by his Labor mates? He's looking more and more like a racketeer and grubby standover man.

The defence being mounted for him by some of his remaining factional mates is interesting: any secret commissions, extortions and the selling out of its members by the AWU under Shorten are being whitewashed as heroic moves to support the provision of infrastructure.

Didnt Rudd change things around to make it difficult to change their leader. :E

You have lost my respect too Hempy - their intention is cllearly to take over rather than integrate. 5th columnists if you like, but they are already here.

5 years on a 457 visa and then a passport.

Well said SOPS - integration is the key. Europe already suffers.

We recently went to a Turkish restaurant in Australia. We were sat near a large portrait of Attaturk, the revered Turkish political & military leader.

An Arabic couple came in, she covered from head to toe with only a slit in her garment for eyes. The restaurant owner cowtowed to them by placing screens all around their one table isolating their table in the busy restaurant.

I was floored to see this in public in Australia, and the irony & hyprocacy of it in a Turkish restaurant showing a large potrait of Attaturk and about to have a popular bellly dancing show seemed only apparent to us.

We wont be back.

Since seeing first hand 10000+ muslim shia men marching through an empty Melbourne on Melbourne cup day protesting oppression I have felt that worse is coming. The oppression they protest is of their own making and in their own minds, look what they do to their women and innocents in the name of their god.

No wonder you chose ramble on as a monocle!
Don't worry, your views are exactly what Abbott and co want.
Now when you mention " what they do to their women and children" are you including the Catholic faith as well?

Abbott doesn't give a sh!t about muslims who want to be part of the society they moved to, he like most of us gives a sh!t about the extremists who don't want to assimilate.

For a side of politics that espouses every thing science etc, its amazing you choose to stick your head into the ground in regards to basic social structures and social evolution.

Now when you mention " what they do to their women and children" are you including the Catholic faith as well?
Just pray tell what those "evil" catholics up to now? Or is it just a case of trying to perpetuate a myth. Even at the hieght of hard core views they never got into honor killing in any big way that I can remember.

I don't think being kicked out of home counts. In fact I think catching some bloke in bed with your wife, daughter usually resulted in the bloke getting a seeing to.

Monocle ? A one glass set of eye wear ? Try moniker

SOPS 20th Jun 2015 04:20

The burka should be banned in public, in Australia. full stop.

RJM 20th Jun 2015 05:39

I wonder why we are willingly risking the same sort of outcome as for example Denmark - ie allowing social disruption from significant immigration from the Middle East and North Africa, then enduring the further social disruption of a right-wing backlash. (Denmark's moderate Left government has just fallen to a right-wing coalition which intends to curb immigration)

All in the name of what? Morality? Whose morality? Isn't there a morality in serving the national interest, in ensuring a safe, happy national environment for ourselves? How ironic, and how sad, that such ideas as the primacy of our national interest are widely considered politically incorrect and racist. Our own best interests should be the highest morality guiding our future, not some tortured notion of correct behaviour that comes very close to political self-flagellation.

RJM 20th Jun 2015 05:44

Didnt Rudd change things around to make it difficult to change their leader.
Difficult, but not impossible, TI. As with the rules governing the behaviour of our community at large, Rudd's rules around succession in the Labor Party are rules made by the group, and ultimately are changeable by the group as its best interests require.

Whats wrong with Abbot? .... Perhaps he wasn't voted in by the minority?

Pinky the pilot 20th Jun 2015 08:45

The burka should be banned in public, in Australia. full stop.
Haven`t the Froggies already done so?

But SOPS; Can you imagine the screams of outrage from SHY and others of her ilk should such a ban be passed by Parliament?

She would probably go into a total meltdown and blow a foofer valve!!:ooh::ooh:

Yes, a very lovely thought is is not??:D:E

And FWIW; Re your post, I agree!

Whats wrong with Abbot? .... Perhaps he wasn't voted in by the minority?
And therein you have it. The left of the Political spectrum in Australia are of the minority, no matter how much they deny it, but to them, only they know what is best for Australia and its People, as a few contributors to this thread have noted in the past. cf SOPS`s Lefty Sister of whom he has spoken previously.

How do you put up with her rants btw? Ever been tempted to give her a few choice verbal views?

SOPS 20th Jun 2015 12:19

You can't tell her anything Pinky. Only she knows best. And if you dare question her, her vapour levels go to max, she abuses you, says you know nothing, and storms off.

Just a typical left lefty.

Ethel the Aardvark 20th Jun 2015 12:48

RH my son, what planet have you been living on, how many evil priestly events do you want. If you are attacking one religion then you might as well include the other more respectable ones as well.
TWT, I think one eyed is more appropriate.
Wondered how long before we would get onto the burka bashing again :{
